Emerging County Wicklow, Ireland artist Joni makes the sort of music that hops from genre to genre with absolute composure. Her debut tune, 'Running', written appropriately whilst pounding the tarmac, listening to Burial and Paul Woolford, soaks up elements of British R&B and electronic music from the past decade, including the aforementioned Will Bevan's ambient soundscaping. Joni comes from a classical violin background, and it's an unusual and neat trick that 'Running' is so instrumentally bare, but manages to retain a sense of humanity; glitchy beats and diced samples are cut with her own confidently delivered vocal, making this as unique a sliver of modern R&B/pop as the Emerald Isle has to offer. - DC
